High Tea in the Orchard, Harris Tree Farm - Harris Family Farm, June 22

Sisters Pam and Jane Harris hosted an elegant loftier tea, served in the cute orchard, shaded by fruit copse and surrounded past Christmas trees. Tables were draped with family unit lace and tea was served in treasured family china.

More than three years agone the El Dorado County Farm Trails Quilt Trail Project was the dream of a few enthusiastic women who had seen successful quilt trails created throughout the United states and Canada.

Today the dream is a reality where quilt designs are painted on wooden blocks and are hung on barns, buildings and in gardens in the beautiful rolling hills throughout El Dorado County.

On June 24 and 25 the Quilt Trail Project took 15 guests on guided tours to view the local quilt blocks, stopping for photos and learning the story of each quilt block and histories of the farms, wineries or businesses where they are hung. The morn started at 10 a.m. with views of quilt blocks named "Crimson Rooster," "Stars and Stripes," "Martha Washington Star" and "Fausel Family Lace."

The group took a scenic bulldoze to the Davies Family Inn on Ft. Jim Road in Placerville to see the "Davies Cabin" quilt block and enjoyed a tour of Backroads Befouled, a treasure of antiques and vintage finds. Afterward a refreshing mimosa and tour of the society, grounds and wildflower gardens, the tour headed past Sly Park to the Harris Tree Farm in Pollock Pines, a 150-year-old, seven-generation family unit farm and member of the Quilt Trail Projection and featuring its quilt block "Scottish Cross."

Tea, also

Sisters Pam and Jane Harris hosted an elegant high tea, served in the beautiful orchard, shaded by fruit trees and surrounded by Christmas copse. Tables were draped with family unit lace and tea was served in treasured family unit china.

The weekend was very warm, so the tea offerings included iced teas and other cool refreshments. Farm staff and members of the Quilt Trail Projection prepared and served a delicious assortment of blackberry craven sliders, egg salad and cucumber/cream cheese sandwiches.

The sweets consisted of mini apple cider doughnuts; reddish, apricot, blueberry and blackberry turnovers; apricot scones with clotted cream and blackberry jam; and personal cups of fresh Rainbow Orchard Blueberries.

Harris Tree Farm holds events throughout the year including high teas, blackberry jam making classes, you-selection days and its bakery is always prepare for visitors. In improver to fruits and vegetables Harris Tree Farm offers a diverseness of you-cut holiday trees and bonfire events with Santa, chili and south'mores. The subcontract offers produce, fresh eggs, broiled pies, turnovers, jams and jellies from its kitchen on the farm and at local farmers markets.

On the trail

Dorsum on the Quilt Trail, the group saw quilt blocks named "Rainbow Fan and Donuts," "Pine Tree" and "Niggling Dutch Girl."

At the Fudge Mill Farm on Carson Road they enjoyed chocolate goodies. Adjacent they went to meet "Summer Blooms" at the nearby Lava Cap Winery where they enjoyed a special vino tasting on the patio and then on to view "Sarah'due south Pick." The last stop was Bluestone Meadow lavender farm on the eastern outskirts of Placerville where they enjoyed lavender lemonade and received fresh lavender sachets in picayune silk bags.

Each invitee received a Quilt Trail brochure and offerings from all the stops and a Quilt Trail tote handbag. Both groups enjoyed their tours and already have friends in mind to invite again.

They were returned to their drop off around v p.m. This tour was paid for in office by funds from an El Dorado Canton Economic Development Opportunity Grant.
